Atelier001 began its journey in 2018, founded by London-based illumination artist Eva Menz. The vision was to create a collection dedicated to preserving precious artisanship, supporting makers, and revitalising endangered skills. Having worked in the realm of lighting for more than 20 years, Menz cultivated close relationships with artisans and workshops across London and beyond. She believes that lighting objects can embody the stories, emotions, and most importantly the exceptional skills of those who create them.

The name Atelier001 combines Atelier, a place where objects are crafted by hand, with 001, signifying that each piece is a one-off, an edition ‘001’. Every Atelier001 lighting piece is meticulously handmade by master artisans, each with their own story to tell.

The collection of lighting sculptures and objects takes pride in its beautiful imperfections, where variations and traces of handmaking are not only visible but celebrated. Each object is the result of patience, a devotion to fine detail, and a profound understanding of traditional handcrafting techniques. The most valuable element of these works is the time and care devoted to their creation.
